Maths

The Mathematics department at Bannockburn High School aims to provide a learning experience that challenges, stimulates and supports all pupils as they journey toward achieving their mathematical potential. The department comprises seven highly skilled teachers who work hard to create a learning environment where all pupils can develop confidence, perseverance and a genuine enjoyment for the subject. We have five classes in each year group. The classes are set according to pupil ability with the opportunity for pupils to move between sets as they progress. In the journey through S1 and S2 all classes are given a broad general education in Mathematics based on the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence. From S3 our pupils work toward the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence qualifications, with each individual following a qualification which is best suited to their learning. Higher Mathematics and Advanced Higher Mathematics are offered to the S5 and S6 pupils as appropriate.

Numeracy booklet

Numeracy

Numeracy is a skill for life, learning and work. Having well-developed numeracy skills allows young people to be more confident in social settings and enhances enjoyment in a large number of leisure activities. For these and many other reasons, all teachers have important parts to play in enhancing the numeracy skills of all children and young people. Being numerate helps us to function responsibly in everyday life and contribute effectively to society. It increases our opportunities within the world of work and establishes foundations which can be built upon through lifelong learning. Numeracy is not only a subset of mathematics; it is also a life skill which permeates and supports all areas of learning, allowing young people access to the wider curriculum.
